{"id":20,"date":"2018-12-31T18:04:39","date_gmt":"2018-12-31T18:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/?page_id=20"},"modified":"2026-05-28T15:05:47","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:05:47","slug":"welcome","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is the centre?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Centre for Practice Theory at Lancaster provides an intellectual home and one-stop-shop for resources, events, and networking opportunities for the international, interdisciplinary community of researchers working ideas and approaches rooted in social practice theory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does the centre do today?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Centre is a lively hub \u2013 generating fresh ideas \u2013 and an umbrella \u2013 a space for sharing resources, networks and news, and for fostering new connections. Launched in 2022 (see a short video welcome from <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Abi4vKMy1-A\">Professor Simon Guy<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/files\/2022\/05\/practice-theory-launch.pdf\">pictures from the launch<\/a>), the centre runs all sorts of activities including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An annual international and online conference in November \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/the-gathering\/\">The Practice Theory Gathering<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>A series of online <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/events\/\">Reading Rooms<\/a> \u2013 which are open for anyone to join;<\/li>\n<li>A dedicated journal \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.library.lancs.ac.uk\/jpt\">the Journal of Practice Theory<\/a>, always open for submissions<\/li>\n<li>A biennial summer school for researchers working with Practice Theory (<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/events\/practice-theory-and-the-digital-18-20th-september-2023\/\">The Digital in 2023<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/practice-theory-and-power-conflict-politics-and-transformation\/\">Practice theory and power, 2025<\/a>; Practices on the move, planned to take place in Krakow, September 2027);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A repository of <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/links\/\">resources<\/a> related to Practice Theory in the form of a research rabbit\u00a0 library of key texts, videos, podcasts with practice theory authors, and the an outline of the practice theory course (no longer running at Lancaster).<\/li>\n<li>A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/centre-for-practice-theory-lancaster\/posts\/?feedView=all\"> linkedin<\/a> presence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What to do next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lancs.us21.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=656628ee0e992fba8af0da20f&amp;id=ba956d54bc\">Subscribe<\/a> to the monthly newsletter<br \/>\nPut yourself on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/the-map\/\">map of practice theory enthusiasts<\/a><br \/>\nJoin our <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/socialpractice\/events\/\">events<\/a> \u2013 most are online<br \/>\nLook through the <a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.library.lancs.ac.uk\/jpt\">Journal of Practice Theory<\/a><br \/>\nFollow us on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/centre-for-practice-theory-lancaster\/posts\/?feedView=all\">social media<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the centre?
