The GISMO Team have started 2021 off smart, with two successful events in February and a third planned for March.<\/p>\n
On Friday 5th February we hosted Coatings – we’ve got it covered<\/em>, with Professor Rob Short<\/a>, Director of the Materials Science Institute at Lancaster University. Prof. Short explored the use of functional coatings<\/a> for medical devices and life science. The seminar discussed two case studies of products developed from research in this area: myskin\u2122, a cell delivery patch for severe burns and non-healing wounds; and Purecoat\u2122, an advanced cell culture surface designed for cell therapy. You can access the slides from this webinar here<\/a> and we are currently working on making a recording available.<\/p>\n The following week, GISMO teamed up with Made Smarter<\/a> to discuss the latest thinking and techniques in additive manufacturing<\/a> in Business briefing: the case for additive manufacturing<\/em>. GISMO Innovation Fellow Armin Yousefi Kanani<\/a> gave a talk focusing on the technology perspective of 3D printing<\/a>, followed by a tour of the world-class facilities at Lancaster University’s Engineering Building<\/a>. This was followed by a panel discussion with researchers, engineers and advisers, who discussed techniques and materials; skills, design and lifecycle implications; return on investment and how to make the business case for using additive manufacturing.
