{"id":1089,"date":"2020-11-10T14:24:26","date_gmt":"2020-11-10T14:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/smarter-materials\/?p=1089"},"modified":"2021-02-16T10:58:37","modified_gmt":"2021-02-16T10:58:37","slug":"julien-doulcet-gismo-innovation-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/smarter-materials\/julien-doulcet-gismo-innovation-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"Julien Doulcet: GISMO Innovation Fellow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>We caught up with Julien Doulcet, post-doctoral fellow and GISMO Innovation Fellow in Chemicals and Hydrogen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Describe yourself in three words.<\/strong><br \/>\nPassionate, Persistent, Cartesian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who or what inspired you to a career in science?<\/strong><br \/>\nReading science books and magazines as a kid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What qualifications do you hold?<\/strong><br \/>\nPhD in Chemistry from the University of East Anglia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long have you worked at Lancaster University (and in what roles)?<\/strong><br \/>\nI\u2019ve worked as a post-doctoral fellow since September 2018, and started my role at GISMO this year.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nWhat do you like most about working at Lancaster University?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s a young and motivated institution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you most looking forward to doing on the GISMO project?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Conducting research projects that have direct industrial application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your greatest\/proudest achievement (in or outside work)?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Starting a family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your hobbies and interests outside work?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Hiking, sports, listening to music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you eat for breakfast most days?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Bread with various toppings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s your favourite smart material \u2013 and why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Semiconductors, as they hold the key to the future of green solar energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What sort of problems can you help small businesses to solve?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Organic chemistry \/catalysis-related problems, as well as achieving\/optimising the synthesis of desired targets using organic chemistry and catalysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What advice do you have for businesses that are not familiar with working with universities?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Development of new materials and\/or chemicals does not happen in a black box.
