Exciting Leadership Development Opportunity: Research Staff Association Executive Committee Vacancies

Lancaster University’s Research Staff Association (RSA)[1] are looking for two new members to join its Executive Committee, starting October 2018. These two new members will join three continuing members from last year and a member of staff from HR’s OED.

The RSA is run by researchers for researchers. As a body it represents all members of the University’s research community on institutional and national committees and panels. It also runs frequent workshops and networking events for members of research staff at Lancaster. The RSA Executive Committee acts as the primary working group overseeing the RSA and its involvement in the Concordat to support the Career Development of Researchers[2].

Joining the RSA Executive Committee is an exciting professional development opportunity, providing you with experience of committee work, organising and leading activities, and representing your fellow researchers. The main duties of these two advertised positions are:

  1. To work in partnership with the other Executive Committee members to oversee and lead all aspects of the RSAs activities.
  2. To attend all Executive Committee meetings, when possible, and provide input and opinion on all issues, as appropriate.
  3. To help organise and deliver any other activities when requested by the Chair or other Executive Committee Leads.
  4. To champion the RSA in your department/school and faculty and liaise with your department/school and faculty representatives to enhance the researcher representation at Lancaster.

The time required for these roles is dependent upon the amount of work you put in. At a minimum, it will require 1-2 hours a fortnight, but the work load is spread amongst the whole Executive Committee.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr Nathan Case (RSA Chair) email: n.case@lancaster.ac.uk. We particularly welcome applications from those who are under-represented in the current Executive Committee.

Applications for these positions should be via the linked form and sent to rsa@lancaster.ac.uk. Deadline for applications is 9am Monday 1st October 2018.

We hope to hear from you soon!
