As we approach Sept 20th, a day of global action on climate change, the LU Climate Emergency Working group wishes to propagate the following message.<\/p>\n
Climate emergency campaign at Lancaster University – how you can help<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sign this petition<\/u> (using your @lancaster.ac.uk email) to ask the University to declare and respond to the climate and ecological emergency: Many other institutions, including universities and local councils have already made similar declarations, for example the University of Bristol<\/a> and Lancaster City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n What does the petition ask for?<\/u> Why should I sign it? <\/u> 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Get involved in Global Climate Day on Friday 20th September (https:\/\/www.campaigncc.org\/climate_strike_20_september<\/a>) at which millions of people across the world are taking the day off to support young climate strikers, demanding climate action before it is too late.<\/p>\n a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Here at Lancaster Uni, we\u2019re encouraging everyone to stop working for 30 minutes at 12pm<\/u><\/strong>, and come along to Alex Square. We are delighted that HR and senior management have confirmed their support for this stoppage of work for half an hour.<\/p>\n We\u2019d love to create the exciting visual of a Human Globe with everyone who pops down:<\/p>\n We\u2019d also encourage you to set up an \u2018out of office\u2019 message that day (even if you only join us for half an hour) and mention the climate strike to raise awareness.\u00a0 (e.g. I will be out of the office today to support the Global Climate Strike https:\/\/globalclimatestrike.net\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n We hope to have a drone filming on the day, a couple of speeches and the opportunity to help us create a video about the University\u2019s responsibilities and plans towards becoming carbon neutral, and what climate action looks like to you.<\/p>\n b)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you\u2019d like to support the climate strikers by taking more time off, Lancaster Youth For Environment<\/em> (LYFE) are hosting an event in town from 11-2pm in solidarity with those all over the world striking on the day. The contractors were to have a compound in the underpass. But this deemed to be unsafe, and was relocated to Physics AV with no notice.
