I graduate on June 2019, and I would like to have some experience working with a research team before I decide what I want to do in the future. So that is why I am writting, to ask if it could be possible to do an Internship with you and your research team. In order to do so I have to apply for an Erasmus+Internship grant. I can obtain this grant without any agreement between our universities, I just need a tutor, so for that reason I am contacting you.

My idea is to spend 2-3 months in an Investigation department. My criteria for choosing your team was the ample research areas and the excellent scientific production. My ambition is to dedicate my life to scientific research. I am really interested in this oportunity. Experimental physics is what I like most, futhermore I would like to learn more about condesed matter, biophysics or medical physics. So that is why I think your research team is a great opportunity

I am thinking on doing this internship during the summer months; starting in july and finishing in august/early september. However If these dates are not available, I would be grateful if you could let me another period that does work.

Talking about myself, as I said before, I am on my fourth year of the Physics bachelors degree. Regarding my English level, I obtained a 105 out of 120 on the TOEFL IBT exam (equivalent to C2 level), and I am currently waiting to take a certified C2 Cambridge exam. Moving on to programming, I know how to program in languages such as Matlab, Fortran, LaTeX , R and Wolfram Mathematica. I have also studied one semester in Kent State University OH (United States) during my third year, added on to a year also in Kent during Middle School. So I can understand and communicate in English very well.

I expect to learn a lot from your projects and be able to put into practice what I have learned during my bachelors. This is also a great chance to work with different and sophisticated materials which we lack for in my University, and otherwise I would not have the chance to use them. Another reason why I chose your group is to learn about different cultures and live in a different place.

I am looking forward to your answer

Thank you very much for your time, sincerely,

Miguel

Rob Lewsey

Brexit Travel Advice

Brexit – travel on and around 29th March 2019 and other considerations:

https://portal.lancaster.ac.uk/staffintranet/protected/?landingTab=/storybypath/intranet/news/2019/brexit-travel-on-and-around-29th-march-2019-and-other-considerations/index.xml#/storybypath/intranet/news/2019/brexit-travel-on-and-around-29th-march-2019-and-other-considerations/index.xml

Grainne Wilkinson

IOP Institute of Physics – Lancashire and Cumbria Branch

Lancashire Lecture Programme 2018 – 2019

CHANGED Date & Venue – 15 Feb 2019 – Lancaster – Mercury – first rock from the Sun – Dr Suzie Imber (Leicester) – Cavendish Colloquium Rooms

13 Mar 2019 – Preston – What we can learn from Gaia about the origin and structure of galaxies – Prof James Binney (Oxford)

10 April 2019 – Lancaster – Galaxy formation and evolution: nature vs nurture – Dr David Sobral (Lancaster)

15 May 2019 – Preston – Asteroseismology: A New Keplerian Revolution Prof Don Kurtz (UCLan)

12 June 2019 – Lancaster – Infinite Differences: Lessons on Diversity from Women in Physics – Dr Frankie Doddato (Lancaster)

Start Times: 18:00 (refreshments) for 18:30

Venues:

Preston: Lecture Theatre 2 or 3, Foster Building, University of Central Lancashire

Lancaster: Cavendish Colloquium Room, Faraday Lecture Theatre Complex, Lancaster University

Chris Bowdery

Data Science in Physics: a New Group Within Physics.
