This talk will provide an introduction to the design of new thermoelectric materials for converting waste heat into electricity, using single molecules and self-assembled molecular layers. The designs exploit recent laboratory demonstrations that room-temperature electron and phonon transport in such systems are controlled by quantum interference. He was awarded a QinetiQ Fellowship (2009) was elected as a member of Academia Europaea (2006) and elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics (2000). He conceptualised, initiated and created the Lancaster Quantum Technology Centre and was the Founding Director until 2013. He led the Physics Department to the highest possible scores in RAEs 2001 and 2008. Over the past 20 years, Lambert has led five European research collaborations, each 2-3 MEuros and involving 10 EU partners. Recent industry partners include BP Exploration, QinetiQ and IBM Zurich. During 2005-6 Lambert led a European-level Forward Look in Nanoelectronics and Nanotechnology. He is a former President and a current Council member of the Lausanne-based computational science organisation CECAM, supported by a a wide range of European funding agencies. He was Director of the \u00a34.8million North West Science Grid and a Board Member of the N8 Molecular Engineering Translational Research Centre. In 2004 he created and wrote the Call for the 10 Meuro European Science Foundation, Eurocores programme, &#8220;Fundamentals of Nanoelectronics.&#8221; In 1997, he was Founding Director of the EPSRC\/IOP Theory of Condensed Matter Annual Summer School, \u2018Physics By The Lake.\u2019 In 1999, he co-founded the Windsor Summer School series.<br \/>\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/physics\/about-us\/people\/colin-lambert\">http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/physics\/about-us\/people\/colin-lambert <\/a> \u00a0)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lefteris Danos<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Board\/Card games evening<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Hi everyone, I am currently organising a board games evening on Wednesday 7th March (next week) at 6pm after work for about 3 hours (although people can come and go whenever). We are planning to play a role playing game of up to 30 people called Werewolf, which is really fun game involving roleplaying, teamwork, deception. This will cover the basics to get you started with version control, and teach some more advanced features.\u00a0 You will need to bring your own laptop as this will be a hands on tutorial. The tutorial covers:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; What is version control and why do I need it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; What is git.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; How to use git locally for version control<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; How to use git remotely with github<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; How to collaborate using git.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; How to use branches.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Which work flow is best for me.<\/p>\n<p>This event is open to all academics, researchers, and PhD students. Many of these works will be carried out at weekends to mitigate disruption.<\/p>\n<p>These works are routine works and do not pose a risk to people in nearby rooms.
