Staff should also be aware that the wooden canopy above the emergency exit at the back of the Physics building is being removed on the same day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martin Ward<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Building Security<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There have been a number of break-ins on campus. Can all staff ensure all labs, offices, and multi occupancy space, are locked \u00a0when you leave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martin Ward<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Works on the Zip Taps<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On the 15th August the cupboards housing the zip tap boilers will undergo some remedial works. The taps may be out of use for a short while whilst the works are completed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shonah Ion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Safety Recall<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There is a safety issue with the lifting eye bolts on TRIVAC 65B and D40B vacuum pumps.<br \/>\nThe bolts need to be replaced and fitted in accordance with instructions.<br \/>\nPlease see Alan Stokes in A512 if you have one of these pumps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shonah Ion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Emergency Lighting Testing<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Emergency Lighting Testing in Physics Building will take place week commencing Monday 28th August 2017 from 9am daily.<br \/>\nEvery month there is a quick test to ensure all Emergency Lighting fittings are operational.\u00a0 This involves a quick visual test.\u00a0 In residences, this applies to corridors and kitchens.\u00a0 There are longer, more involved tests at 6 month and 12 month intervals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shonah Ion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>P<\/strong>ac Testing<\/h2>\n<p>We have been informed by Facilities that Portable Appliance Testing in Physics Building will take place week commencing Monday 14th August 2017.<br \/>\nIt is essential to test portable electrical appliances. Portable appliances are those of any size connected with a plug into a socket. The test will survey the condition of the electrical lead, plug and socket and will run a brief electrical test on appliances.<br \/>\nThis will involve shutting down and unplugging appliances that may currently be in operation, including, printers, TVs and fridges.<br \/>\nNorwood Electrical have been asked to complete this work and have been asked report to a member of staff in each area prior to beginning testing.\u00a0For more information about Portable Appliance Testing visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/facilities\/services\/ppm\/pat\/\">http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/facilities\/services\/ppm\/pat\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shonah Ion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Installation of Physics Safety Systems<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Commencing Monday <strong>14th August 2017<\/strong> M. Catterall Electrical Ltd will be installing safety systems, warning signage in the following laboratories:<\/p>\n<p><strong>A03, A12, A13, A26, A28\/30, A34, A42\/45, A47, A512, A514, A521.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>B02, B25.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>C04, C05, C28\/30, C38.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There may be some minor disruption as the systems will have to be connected in to the mains supply.<\/p>\n<p>Please can you help the electricians when asked to make this as painless process as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Holt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Closure of staircase No.1 for cleaning<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The stairs adjacent to the passenger lift and Mechanical workshop, near the front entrance will be closed from the 21st August for 1 week to allow deep cleaning. Please book B10 as a last resort so that it is available for meetings that require privacy. C29 has blinds.<\/p>\n<p>An additional eight meeting rooms and breakout spaces are available in Phase II each accommodating 4\/ 5 people. As there are a number of these rooms we are trialling that they are used on a first come first served basis. If you need to use the Physics Atrium we are still using the old room booking system\/ Physics calendar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grainne Wilkinson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>For Sale<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Ford Focus LX 1.6l, 2005, very low mileage (59000), 10 months MOT, drives greatly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since we are moving out of the country, we have a<strong><em> Ford Focus 2005<\/em><\/strong> for sale.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At <strong><em>59000 miles<\/em><\/strong> it has a very low mileage and it performs greatly on the road.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>MOT until 05\/2018<\/em><\/strong> (the last round was passed with only minor fixes so it is in a good shape).<\/li>\n<li>Details: Anti-break lock (ABS), passenger &amp; driver airbags, radio + CD player, manual transmission, rear parking sensors, one previous owner<\/li>\n<li>There are some minor scratches (not deep) on both sides and all wheel cases show some signs of rust. All Lancaster University staff employed for more than 12 months continuously, including those on fixed-term contracts, are expected to take part in the PDR process.
