Facilities works in Science & Technology building<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Emergency Lighting Testing in Science & Technology Building will take place week commencing Monday 15th May 2017 from 9am daily. Every month there is a quick test to ensure all Emergency Lighting fittings are operational.\u00a0 This involves a quick visual test.\u00a0 In residences, this applies to corridors and kitchens.\u00a0 There are longer, more involved tests at 6 month and 12 month intervals.<\/p>\n

The session will be roughly half an hour with a 15 minute Q&A at the end. If you’re interested in coming can you let me know? This session is limited to 10 places.<\/p>\n

IOP Carers’ Fund<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There are still some grants available for IOP members who wish to attend a physics related conference or event and would find it helpful to have some financial assistance towards the additional caring costs that may result from attending such an event. The application process is straightforward and decisions are usually communicated in under seven days.<\/p>\n

Any IOP member can apply for up to \u00a3250 to help with the costs of additional caring for children or other dependents that may be required if you were to be attending a physics related conference or event.<\/p>\n

STFC Events<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STFC is planning a series of events on Oct 31st as part of an international dark matter day. The events will target both traditional outreach audiences and government to raise the profile of dark matter research in the UK and beyond. I’m looking to organise some activities related to non-WIMP dark matter searches but I know that various members of the department are also involved with dark matter research from a variety of different perspectives. If anyone else is already planning an event for dark matter day or would be interested in being involved with one then please get in touch so that we can coordinate.<\/p>\n
