Fire Door Interface Inspections
Fire door interface inspections will take place in Physics on 17th August 2022 from 9am.
Every month the University is required to test the interface between the fire alarm system and door control systems in all buildings with access control and/or automatic doors. The alarm bells should be silenced during the test but if the alarm sounds for more than10 seconds, this will indicate a true incident and evacuation will be required. Our muster point is the lamp post between Isolab and the perimeter road.

Physics Stores – chemical waste
The departmental procedure for the disposal of chemical waste is that it must be suitably and safely contained and labelled with the following details: name and concentration of material; relevant hazards; quantity of material; waste producer’s name and lab which generated the waste; and the grant charge code to cover the cost of disposal. It must also be accompanied by a completed hazardous waste form (also available on the Safety area of the Physics SharePoint site.) Please only present your waste to trained staff with prior arrangement.
If you are unsure about anything, consult Physics Stores for guidance before taking waste to stores.

ULT corridor closure
Works in the spine duct to remove old pipe lagging will begin next week 15th August. These works will require the closure of the corridor from the atrium to the back door, adjacent to the ULT labs. There will be brief periods when debris is being removed that the access to the back door will be fully restricted to give unimpeded access for the workers. Please be aware of any additional signage and barriers. There will also be equipment in A007 and further facilities in the avenue for the duration of the works. The work is scheduled to finish by 7th September.
