Safety inductions for new staff members of the Dept
The month I will be holding a couple of extra sessions for safety inductions. These will be on the 14th October, starting with a session for those PG students who missed the general PG orientation day, at 10:00 – 11:00 in C36. Then at 14:30 – 15:30 a session in B24 for any new members of staff.
This is in addition to the regular safety inductions on the first Thursday of the month, usually in B24 at 2:30pm, for new members of staff. Please can line managers ensure your new staff attend.
If it isn’t possible for a new starter to attend one of these sessions please get in touch and we will make a separate arrangement.

Dept Safety handbook 2021 edition
It’s that time again to read, mark, learn & inwardly digest the latest edition of the Dept. safety handbook. As always, it’s full of useful links and guidance to keep us all safe.
It can be found on the Dept. SharePoint site in the Departmental safety area under “General”.
Once read please confirm you have read and understood the contents by either signing the cover sheet and putting it in Grainne Wilkinson’s pigeon hole or by sending a electronic signed version to her. If you spot any typos or errors please let me know (and claim your prize!)

Thank you message from Stephen Holt
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all your kind Email messages, retirement card messages and for the very generous collection you made for me.
I said at my retirement gathering last Thursday, I feel very fortunate to have worked with such dedicated, talented and devoted people. I thank you all for your support, camaraderie and friendship over the years, something I am sure to miss!
I wish you all the very best for the future and I hope the Physics Department goes from strength to strength!

Performance Development Review
Just a reminder that it’s PDR (Performance Development Review) time. In case you have not seen it, HR put out a communication about PDRs for 20/21 which includes links to guidance, training and demos of the electronic form.
Please note that I only have access to my own PDR form so if you need technical assistance with yours, please contact HR Systems.
If your line manager/ PDR reviewer needs to be changed on Core HR so that they can access your form, HR systems can do that for you too.
FAO Non-academic staff on probation (and their line managers)
Staff that are on probation should have an initial PDR in place and complete the accompanying Probation Review form. These can be found in the bottom section of this webpage.
