Change to evening cleaning in the building

We have a proposal from Facilities to move our cleaning from day shifts to evening shifts. Cleaners would start at 4pm and finish around 9:30pm. I have asked for more details on this. Cleaning of labs would still be by invitation only, staff have to arrange directly with the cleaner a time to clean the lab and ensure it is safe to do so, as the situation is now.
If you have any strong feelings on this subject please let me know as soon as possible.

Water Hygiene Testing

Facilities inform us that water hygiene testing in Physics will take place week commencing 9th December 2019 from 9am daily.
Two Lancaster University engineers will require access to kitchens and shared bathrooms to test hot water temperatures. The engineers will not test every kitchen/bathroom just a sample from different locations within the building. This brief survey will take approximately five minutes, and is to ensure that the hot water is maintained at the correct temperature to prevent any instances of legionella. There will be no shutdown of service.

Lancaster University Challenge – Call out to give blood

Each unit of blood donated can save the lives of up to three adults or up to seven babies. That’s why Lancaster University has partnered with NHS Blood and Transplant to launch the 1,000 Pint Challenge on campus, with the aim of collecting 1,000 blood donations from our staff and students in the 2019-20 academic year.
Blood donation: the facts

• You can donate blood between the ages of 17 and 66 (70 if you’ve given blood before).
• Men can give blood every 12 weeks and women can give blood every 16 weeks.
• The closest centre to campus is Lancaster Donor Centre on Ashton Road, just 10 minutes from campus. Here, a token system will be used to keep track of donations from Lancaster staff and students. The centre offers free parking and free WiFi for donors.
• Most people can give blood, although you can check your eligibility at https://www.blood.co.uk/who-can-give-blood/

Scouts Christmas Post

Stamps for the local Scouts Christmas Post and a collection box facility are available from Stephen Holt C504 Physics Electronics Workshop Ext 93648. Stamps are priced at 35p each and the last collection date in the Department will be the Friday13th December.

Christmas Lunch

The Physics Christmas lunch will take place at 1300 hrs on Friday 20th December at Greaves Park, Lancaster. To secure your place please pay me £20 (for two courses) or £22 (for three courses). I will be taking bookings from next Monday 4th November, if you could have the correct money it would be appreciated.

I’ll take your menu choices once you have paid, (please see the attached menu). Please note that the venue has given me a deadline for a pre-order and you will need to book your place by COP Wednesday 27th November.

As usual we will have drinks and mince pies in the Physics Atrium before the lunch, at 1100.
