Recording Training

A recommendation from the safety audit was for managers to record all training undertaken by their staff once completed.  For University run training this can be an automatic process with training appearing on the core HR portal once completed, but any additional or outside training should also be recorded. As line managers are currently unable to directly enter training received by their staff onto the core HR profile, please can you ask HR to log any additional training your staff receive, there for you.
I have the contact details of someone in HR who can enter this information for us, please contact me if this is required.

Departmental safety handbook

The new Departmental safety handbook is now available on the Departments web page About us – Information – Staff ~ safety. This exciting and highly sought after publication is compulsory reading for all research, academic and support staff of the Physics Department.
On the front page you will see a form that needs to be signed, after you have read the handbook, and placed in Grainne Wilkinson’s pigeon hole.
Any uncertainties, questions and typos please get in contact.

Facilities works

Fire Door Interface Inspections: Fire door interface inspections will take place in Physics Building on  7th November 2018 from 9am.
Every month the University is required to test the interface between the fire alarm system and door control systems in all buildings with access control and/or automatic doors.
This work is undertaken by Honeywell Control Systems Ltd and requires the physical inspection of all doors controlled by the access control system while the fire alarm is active and the doors are locked. This check is to ensure that all doors on escape routes will allow evacuation in the event that the fire alarm is activated. In most cases the alarm will be silenced during the inspection, but for some older systems, where it is not possible to silence the alarm, the checks have to be conducted while the alarm is sounding. Owing for the requirement for the doors to be locked during this test some buildings, where access is required during the week, will be tested at the weekend.
