Introduction of Women’s Network at Lancaster
All staff are invited to have their say in how a women’s network should work at Lancaster.
Last month, 72 members of staff attended an event to mark International Women’s Day and the centenary of suffrage for women in the UK. This event inspired lively discussion, and the idea of forming a women’s network at the University was born.
Rachel Beauchamp, who works in the Faculty of Science and Technology as a Student Employability Officer, is interim chair of the group.
She said: “This is an issue that is very close to my heart and I am passionate about women’s empowerment and change – I am sure there are many more staff across the institution who feel the same.”
Since the initial event in March, a discussion and planning meeting took place in April to generate ideas on how the network should move forward.
Rachel continued: “We want to create a women’s network that meets the needs of its members and serves a real purpose within the University. We will aim to inspire, support, empower, change and raise awareness of women’s issues within the institution and across the wider community.”
All staff, regardless of gender, are invited to share their thoughts on what the purpose of a women’s network at Lancaster should be, and which activities and opportunities it should offer.
Please give your feedback by completing this short survey.

Annual Fire Protection Inspection – Fire Doors
The fire door inspection will take place in Physics building and Isolab during week commencing the 21st of May 2018.
Lancaster University has a responsibility to inspect Fire Protection on site every 12 months. Fire Protection Inspection involves assessing compartmentation, fire stopping, signage, combustible materials and more. Part of this inspection will involve two members of the Lancaster University Facilities Maintenance team checking many of the parts of every fire door in the buildings. This usually takes less than five minutes per door. We schedule approximately one week per building, though this may vary depending upon the size and complexity of the building.
