Emergency Lighting Testing

Emergency Lighting Testing in Physics Building will take place week commencing Monday 28th August 2017 from 9am daily.
Every month there is a quick test to ensure all Emergency Lighting fittings are operational.  This involves a quick visual test.  In residences, this applies to corridors and kitchens.  There are longer, more involved tests at 6 month and 12 month intervals.

Pac Testing

We have been informed by Facilities that Portable Appliance Testing in Physics Building will take place week commencing Monday 14th August 2017.
It is essential to test portable electrical appliances. Portable appliances are those of any size connected with a plug into a socket. The test will survey the condition of the electrical lead, plug and socket and will run a brief electrical test on appliances.
This will involve shutting down and unplugging appliances that may currently be in operation, including, printers, TVs and fridges.
Norwood Electrical have been asked to complete this work and have been asked report to a member of staff in each area prior to beginning testing. For more information about Portable Appliance Testing visit http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/facilities/services/ppm/pat/

FAO New staff and their line managers – probation

Line managers should note that if they are managing a new non-academic (i.e. admin/ technical / research) member of staff then regular reviews need to take place and paperwork completed.  There are two forms to complete – an initial PDR form and a Probation Review form. Please visit the “Managing the Probation Period” of this webpage http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/hr/recruitment/inductionIndex.html  and scroll down to the Non Academic Staff Probation section for guidance and the forms.

Room Bookings for Physics Building

We are now using the LU room booking system for the following rooms: A27, B9, B10, B24, C29 and C36. Please book B10 as a last resort so that it is available for meetings that require privacy. C29 has blinds.

An additional eight meeting rooms and breakout spaces are available in Phase II each accommodating 4/ 5 people. As there are a number of these rooms we are trialling that they are used on a first come first served basis. If you need to use the Physics Atrium we are still using the old room booking system/ Physics calendar.

Performance Development Reviews for 2016/2017

The 2016/17 Performance Development Review (PDR) cycle is drawing to a close. All Lancaster University staff employed for more than 12 months continuously, including those on fixed-term contracts, are expected to take part in the PDR process. Staff who are on probation do not need to have a PDR but new starters in support areas should have objectives set using an ‘Initial PDR form (for new starters)’.

For full information on PDR policy, guidance and PDR forms please visit http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/hr/pdr/ The PDR forms were updated quite recently so please ensure you use the current version from the webpage. The period of review will generally be from the beginning of August 2016 to the end of July 2017.

When forms are complete and signed by both reviewer and reviewee please could they be passed to me.
