Essay marking workshop<\/h4>\n

This workshop takes place during your first tutor-led seminar. Its purpose is twofold. First, it’ll help you get familiar with assessing others’ writing and providing feedback: something you’ll have to do on your peers’ short essays during Weeks 4 and 5 (you’ll get a simplified feedback grid for this). Evaluating others’ writing is a great way to improve your own writing.\u00a0<\/span>Second, it’ll help you understand the criteria against which you’re evaluated on this module (through the final 2,500 words essay due in January).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here’s what you need to prepare before<\/strong> the seminar (1h prep):<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Familiarise yourself with the OWT.326 feedback grid. <\/a>This is the grid that I will be using to provide feedback on your final assessment. Highlight any area you’re uncertain of.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Make sure you’re also familiar with the\u00a0OWT grade descriptors.<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Read this student essay from last year<\/a> and assess it against the criteria used above. What feedback would you give it? what did you think went well in the essay? What was an issue?<\/span><\/li>\n
