In the first part, we&#8217;ll go back to the concept of the panopticon and unpack how workplace control and surveillance is enacted, and various ways of framing workers&#8217; resistance to it (part 1). Pay particular attention to the critique the authors make of an uncritical use of the concept &#8211; what it keeps us from recognising, and the sort of resistance work it risks erasing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><a id=\"a3\"><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"> Go to Mural and open the &#8220;Theme 4 activity 1 (Week 8)&#8221; worksheet.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In this activity you&#8217;re asked to come up with examples of digital surveillance, analysing how well they &#8220;fit&#8221; the concept of the electronic panopticon\u00a0(you may re-use some examples from Theme 3 if they fit the idea of &#8216;surveillance&#8217;, but not all forms of control are &#8216;surveillance&#8217;!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Place all these on your group&#8217;s Mural map. Are they merely vehicles for people to enact change? How do these constitute examples of theories presented at the beginning of the module (SCOT, ANT, Technological Determinism)?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Place these examples in the dedicated group Mural (&#8220;Theme 4 activity 2 (week 9)&#8221;) for discussion with your group.
