{"id":190,"date":"2023-02-15T15:26:59","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T15:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/otb3-2023\/?page_id=190"},"modified":"2023-06-12T14:23:43","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T14:23:43","slug":"waste-safari-instructions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/otb3-2023\/waste-safari-instructions\/","title":{"rendered":"Waste Safari &amp; Instructions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-199 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/otb3-2023\/files\/2023\/02\/Waste-Safari-logo-JPEG-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/otb3-2023\/files\/2023\/02\/Waste-Safari-logo-JPEG-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/otb3-2023\/files\/2023\/02\/Waste-Safari-logo-JPEG-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/otb3-2023\/files\/2023\/02\/Waste-Safari-logo-JPEG.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>This collection of photos represents the &#8220;safari&#8221; (the word for journey in Swahili) behind the social, environmental and material complexities of waste and the act of wasting in daily life.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Guidelines to participate<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This activity will happen during the OTB3 conference and represents a methodology to explore the relationship between consumption, post-consumption and waste practices through the elicitation of waste-objects.<\/p>\n<p>This is a pair\/group activity<\/p>\n<p>The activity is divided into 3 parts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Listen to Waste Safari organisers Marta, Maria Jose, Francisco and John\u2019s welcome words<\/li>\n<li>Prepare to introduce your waste research interests during the \u201c<em>speed dates<\/em>\u201d session to the other participants<\/li>\n<li>Choose 1 or 2 \u201cWaste Safari companion(s)\u201d, choose companions you are not acquainting to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Part 2: Photo Shooting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your group can take photos at any moment and\/or during the City Centre walk with Marta, Maria Jose\u2019, Francisco and John<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Take photos.\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle\">\n<li>Some location\/situation ideas: infrastructures, practices, actions or wasting-situations such as recycling stations on campus, grocery stores, fast-food restaurants, clothes containers, and more if you are in town.<\/li>\n<li>Some ideas to \u201cinterrogate\u201d your waste:\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Who are you?<\/li>\n<li>What are you doing here? How did you arrive here?<\/li>\n<li>What kind of relations you have\/had with humans and non-humans?<\/li>\n<li>What are the positive and negative consequences of your existence?<\/li>\n<li>How can we help you?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select 1 photo to send to <a href=\"mailto:otb3@lancaster.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">otb3@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a> by <strong>Friday 16th, 23:59.<\/strong> Make sure to include:\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle\">\n<li>Title, name of authors, description and brief reflection on waste\/discard studies related to that photo (200 words max)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Part 3: Award Ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Come along and cheer the Waste Safari 2023 winners during the OTB3 Closing session on Saturday 17th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Photo contents:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>If featuring people (recognisable), make sure to have their consent to appear in your shot. This implies:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle\">\n<li>they agree to be on OTB3 conference website (public)<\/li>\n<li>OTB social media channels (public)<\/li>\n<li>OTB Flickr profile (public)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please, make a note of the way you have obtained consent when submitting your photo.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Avoid showing sensitive materials as your photo will appear on the OTB channels and, possibly, Lancaster University website dominion (OTB3 conference website).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Photos which do not oblige the above voice will be excluded from the Waste Safari activity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judging criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Relevance of the message: what does the photo show? Is that clear?<\/li>\n<li>Impact of the message: did the photo help to change\/show\/expose anything?
