\ud83d\udcdd Our new paper on the impact of anti-seizure medications on the neural dynamics of epileptic activity has been published in Epilepsia<\/em>! In this study, we used intracranial EEG recordings to compare the location and spatiotemporal patterns of seizures in patients with epilepsy as their anti-seizure medication was tapered from high to low dosages. In his thought-provoking talk – titled \u2018Sharing information between human memory systems<\/em> \u2019 – Professor Robertson discussed how different memory systems interact in the brain, sparking many questions and insightful conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n November 3, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4b This week, we hosted PhD student Vojt\u011bch Tr\u00e1vn\u00ed\u010dek in the NEON Lab! Vojt\u011bch visited us from the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic. We had a great week discussing ideas and sharing methods to address important questions in EEG, epilepsy and dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n October 1, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4b A warm welcome back to Sofia Antoniazzi, who returns to the NEON Lab today as an MRes student after previously completing her third-year BSc dissertation with us! Sofia’s project will focus on investigating the complex links between late-onset epilepsy and dementia in older adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n August 6, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udcdd Our latest review on the role of slow-wave sleep in offline memory processing has been published in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience<\/em>! We draw on evidence from human EEG studies and discuss how slow-wave sleep supports the consolidation of both declarative and procedural memories and contributes to higher cognitive functions. We\u2019re excited to have them on board!<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 11, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udcac Dr Sana Hannan, along with Professor Hedley Emsley (Lancaster Medical School) and Dr Clare Gordon (University of Central Lancashire), formally launch the Collaboration for Late-Onset and Vascular Epilepsy Research (CLOVER) \u2013 a new network focused on epilepsy that begins later in life. The event was marked by holding a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) workshop to bring together individuals with lived experience of late-onset, post-stroke, and vascular epilepsies to help shape the top research priorities. In her talk, she discussed the importance of EEG as a tool for helping us understand the complex links between epilepsy and sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n November 22, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udcac Dr Sana Hannan organised and chaired a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) workshop on epilepsy and Alzheimer’s Disease, bringing together volunteers from the Epilepsy Research Institute and Alzheimer’s Society patient networks.
