Free ticketed performance, running time 40 minutes
Venue Oliver Hill Room, Midland Hotel, Morecambe
Lancaster Arts are excited to re-present this innovative and collaborative performance in partnership with the Morecambe Milieux, Aqueous Futures conference team at the Midland Hotel this September. Our tour guide, TV and screen actor Orla Cottingham, will share the wonders of the Lune, its stories, wildlife, history and chemistry, as she performs Claire Dean’s engaging text in front of a beautiful textile map made by The Sewing Café Lancaster. In keeping with the wider themes of the Morecambe Milieux, Aqueous Futures conference and symposium, the performance shares and explores different ways of knowing and engaging with our landscape and the forces shaping it.
River Tours: The Lune was first commissioned and produced by Lancaster Arts in 2022 and shown by the river in collaboration with the renowned theatre company, Stan’s Cafe (based in Birmingham). The project sits in the context of Stan’s Cafe’s ongoing International River Tours project, which will develop further river stories and textiles as it tours around the world. Commissioned local artists include Orla Cottingham (performer) Claire Dean (writer) and The Sewing Café Lancaster (textile artists and makers). River Tours was also supported by the Mill Race programme of Historic England.
