Throughout the project, we have worked with an artist, Tony Pickering, to represent medical training journeys over space and time. These cartographic narratives describe the movements of current doctors over time, with a focus on why they move or stay in particular locations. We are interested in relationships between place and medical training pathways, encouraging discussion about how underdoctoring is affected by events in doctors’ lives, including decisions that are made at a national level about where work is located.
Our Medical Training Pathways booklet presents an overview of some of the key experiences shared by doctors that shaped their careers.
