Michael Lambert from the MapDoc team has been out and about sharing some of the findings from our historical and policy archives research thread. First, he presented the paper: ‘Planning by numbers? A history of clinical workforce policies in the NHS, 1948-1997’ at the Health Policy and Politics Network Annual Conference, Institute for Health Policy and Organisation, University of Manchester. This was written up as one of the conference highlights.

Second, he presented ‘Out of step? Clinical workforce planning, medical school expansion, postgraduate training and health service delivery in England since 1948’ to the Social Policy Association Annual Conference, Strathclyde University, showing how understanding what has happened since the inception of the NHS can inform contemporary workforce planning.
