{"id":68,"date":"2021-03-16T15:51:49","date_gmt":"2021-03-16T15:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/?page_id=68"},"modified":"2021-06-16T16:55:31","modified_gmt":"2021-06-16T16:55:31","slug":"waste","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/waste\/","title":{"rendered":"Waste"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Recognising that many of our current practices are not in line with addressing the climate and ecological emergency, Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) commits to:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We will reduce food waste and other waste associated with catering, e.g. by working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/sustainability\/green-lancaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Lancaster<\/a> on waste and composting initiatives, and by avoiding single-use plastics (such as bottled water, disposable cups, plates and cutlery).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We will audit our laboratory and procurement practices to reduce the waste generated from our research.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We will seek ways to reduce the amount of electricity, gas and water consumed by our buildings and equipment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We will purchase recycled and recyclable products and packaging wherever possible, and dispose of waste responsibly, prioritising re-use and recycling where possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We will encourage practices which reduce our paper consumption.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">These commitments have been developed by the LEC Sustainability Group in consultation with all members of the department.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Spring 2021 &#8211; This new website is in development.
