{"id":23,"date":"2020-11-09T08:38:50","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T08:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/?page_id=23"},"modified":"2021-06-16T16:51:16","modified_gmt":"2021-06-16T16:51:16","slug":"sustainability-commitments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainability Commitments"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) recognises that sustainability needs to be embedded in everything we do:<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Through our <strong>research and partnerships<\/strong> we strive to address the big environmental and societal challenges we face.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Through our <strong>teaching<\/strong> we aim for students and staff to inspire and influence each other to develop and apply the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to creating a sustainable, more equitable world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Through our <strong>everyday work<\/strong> we also aim to practice and promote sustainability.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We recognise that many of our current practices are not in line with addressing the climate and ecological emergency, and we seek to change this as soon as possible. We have therefore made specific commitments in five areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/community\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Community<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/food-and-catering\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Food and catering<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/teaching-learning-and-engaging\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Teaching, learning and engaging<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/travel-sustainability\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Travel<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/sustainability-commitments\/waste\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Waste<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We support calls for Lancaster University to commit to a target of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/news\/-university-announces-aim-to-become-carbon-neutral\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">net zero carbon emissions by 2030<\/a>, and we want to play our part in achieving this target.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We have developed a \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/lec-sustainability\/travel-decision-tree\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Travel Decision Tree<\/a>\u2019 to assist with decision-making about travel modes and alternatives to travel.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Spring 2021 &#8211; This new website is in development.
