Doug, Elizabete, and Steve were also co-authors on the study which is related to our work within the <span style=\"color: #b5121b\"><a style=\"color: #b5121b\" href=\"http:\/\/ripe.illinois.edu\">RIPE project<\/a><\/span> to identify ways to improve photosynthetic induction in crops like cowpea, which are key to food security in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Paper:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #b5121b\"><a style=\"color: #b5121b\" href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/pce.13862\">https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/pce.13862<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unraveling part of the ancient Rubisco puzzle:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another publication with our friends at the <span style=\"color: #b5121b\"><a style=\"color: #b5121b\" href=\"http:\/\/shih-lab.ucdavis.edu\/\">Shih lab at UC Davis<\/a><\/span> has <span style=\"color: #b5121b\"><a style=\"color: #b5121b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41477-020-00762-4\">recently been published in Nature Plants<\/a><\/span>. This work looked at an ancient Rubisco identified from metagenomics data that lacks small subunits. This ancient form of the CO2-fixing enzyme represents a novel bacterial clade and is being termed a Form I&#8217; Rubisco, composed of 8 large subunits (L8).
