LAEL Post-Graduate Conference 2023 Decolonisation Travel Bursary Call for Applications from the Global South
We are delighted to announce that, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of Linguistics and English Language, we are able to offer
1 Travel Bursary
for a successful applicant for this year’s LAEL PG Conference at Lancaster University Campus, 29th & 30th June 2023.
The bursary has been created as the result of efforts to decolonise teaching and exchange of knowledge at Lancaster University amongst researchers and students.
The aim of the Travel Bursary is to contribute financially to the high cost of travel of one successful candidate in order to enable them to present their research at our conference.
How does it work?
The Travel Bursary application is considered in conjunction with the submission of an abstract for a conference talk at our LAEL PG Conference 2023. Please indicate clearly that you want to be considered for the Travel Bursary when submitting your abstract. If you have already submitted your abstract, please get in touch with Kevin Gerigk (k.gerigk@lancaster.ac.uk).
The Travel Bursary will be awarded based on merit. This means the successful candidate will have submitted an abstract of excellent academic standard. The abstract with the highest assessment score in our blind peer review is awarded the Travel Bursary.
Who qualifies for application?
You qualify for the grant if you meet the following criteria:
- Level of current study: Master’s, Doctoral, ECR or practitioner*
- Institutional Affiliation: countries in the global south that have suffered from the impact of colonisation (e.g. Latin American countries, Singapore, Kenya, Madagascar)
- Abstract submission for Conference Talk (at this point we are not able to support Poster Presentations)
What will the Travel Grant include?
Thanks to the generous support by LAEL and FASS, we are able to offer £250 towards travel expenses. In addition, we offer a conference fee waiver, which includes access to the planned conference dinner and all talks and posters for the two days.
By when do I have to apply for the Travel Bursary?
Applications for the Travel Bursary close on 12 May 2023 at 23:59 (BST). After this deadline, we will no longer be able to consider your abstract or your application for the Travel Bursary.
We are delighted to be able to offer this Travel Bursary for the first time in the history of Lancaster University’s LAEL PG Conference. We are very much looking forward to your abstracts and your application for the Travel Bursary if you qualify!
