Welcome to the L10NESS project, based in the world-leading Linguistics & English Language Department at Lancaster University.

Each year in May we host a group of work experience students and introduce them to forensic linguistics and forensic speech science. Throughout their week with us, our students work on the Lancaster 10: Northern English Speaker Samples (L10NESS) project. During this time, they have the opportunity to play the roles of both criminal and crime-fighter as they create, analysing, and report on the kinds of data that we encounter in evidential and intelligence contexts.

If you’re interested in placing work experience students with us, please email FACTOR@lancaster.ac.uk. Note that we do have an annual cap and places tend to go quickly.
