{"id":777,"date":"2024-07-24T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/jukebox\/?p=777"},"modified":"2024-12-06T11:19:34","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T10:19:34","slug":"lancaster-cinema-hosts-fifties-film-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/jukebox\/2024\/07\/24\/lancaster-cinema-hosts-fifties-film-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"Lancaster Cinema Hosts Fifties Film Fun"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Louise Bryning<\/strong><br>Mirador Arts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24th July 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The very first Technicolour rock \u2018n\u2019 roll musical will be screened in Lancaster this July as part of a free event celebrating the Fifties and Sixties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Girl Can\u2019t Help It (U) stars Fifties blonde bombshell, Jayne Mansfield and features appearances by music legends Little Richard, Fats Domino and Gene Vincent among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 1956 satire on the music business will be screened at The Dukes Cinema on July 21 during an afternoon of Fifties and Sixties nostalgia as part of Jukebox: The Teenage Revolution, organised by Lancaster-based arts and heritage charity, Mirador, and Lancaster University Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players; the Granada Foundation and Garfield Weston Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the screening, the Bentham-based author of Jukebox Britain, Adrian Horn will be interviewed to provide context and background both to the film and what made the Fifties such a distinctive social history period where the jukebox played a significant role in teenagers lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audience can also enjoy music from the Fifties and Sixties on a vintage record player and a display of memorabilia from the era including the Ditchburn Jukebox Museum\u2019s collections. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doors open at 12pm and the film screening begins at 1.30pm.
