{"id":2,"date":"2022-09-30T15:16:11","date_gmt":"2022-09-30T15:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/forensic-speech-pbl\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2022-11-15T16:31:42","modified_gmt":"2022-11-15T16:31:42","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/forensic-speech-pbl\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The Department of Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster University and <a href=\"https:\/\/soundscapevoice.com\">Soundscape Voice Evidence<\/a> are joining forces to host <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">a <strong>FREE<\/strong> casework-centred short course, especially for early-career researchers in forensic speech science. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The objective is to bring research and casework closer together by providing researchers with a hands-on opportunity to get a taste of forensic speech casework. The course will be delivered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/linguistics\/about\/people\/georgina-brown\">Dr George Brown<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/soundscapevoice.com\/about-us-2\/\">Dr Christin Kirchh\u00fcbel<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong>How will it work?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The short course has a simple layout with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) at its centre:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">We\u2019ll give you a casework-based problem to work on;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">You\u2019ll have a few weeks to work on the problem in your own time (it&#8217;s difficult to estimate how long you would take to complete the task, but as a guide, we would anticipate that some people might spend three days of intensive work on the task, while others might spend a couple of hours on it each week);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Then we\u2019ll gather in Lancaster for a one-day workshop to discuss the casework-based problem and different ways we could approach it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong>Where and when is this happening?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The first session, where we introduce and distribute the task and materials, will take place at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">14:00-15:00 (GMT) on Friday 25th November 2022 online<\/span>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The one-day in-person workshop will take place on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Thursday 2nd February 2023 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Lancaster+Castle\/@54.0498856,-2.8053895,15z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xa161f18441403421!8m2!3d54.0498856!4d-2.8053895\">Lancaster Castle<\/a><\/span> which is conveniently situated right next to Lancaster train station. Lunch will be provided.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong>Money is tight, is there any financial help?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Thanks to the Lancaster University Faculty of Arts and Social Science Research Fund, we have secured a limited number of small travel grants for attendees who might not be able to find travel funds elsewhere.
