{"id":367,"date":"2024-09-17T10:00:21","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T09:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/fassemployabilityhub\/?p=367"},"modified":"2024-09-17T13:55:14","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T12:55:14","slug":"roisin-winner-of-2024-fringe-young-writers-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/fassemployabilityhub\/2024\/09\/17\/roisin-winner-of-2024-fringe-young-writers-award\/","title":{"rendered":"R\u00f3isin: Winner of 2024 Fringe Young Writers Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>R\u00f3isin, a 20 year-old Theatre and English Literature student from Lancaster University, has been announced as the winner of the 2024 Fringe Young Writers Award.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Faculty Employability Team here at Lancaster would like to send their heartfelt congratualtions to\u00a0R\u00f3isin on this incredible achievement and we look forward to witnessing your bright future continue to develop here at Lancaster and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>You can read the full announcement from the Scotsman below:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sc-djvmMF iECJoV article-title\" data-testid=\"article-title\">Fringe Society announces winner of award for young critics<\/h2>\n<div class=\"Markup__ParagraphWrapper-sc-13q6ywe-0 EWXYw markup first\" data-testid=\"article-content article-paragraph\">\n<p>As a recipient of the prize, R\u00f3isin will receive one-to-one mentoring from arts writers at the Scotsman, followed by paid work as part of the paper\u2019s review team for the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Markup__ParagraphWrapper-sc-13q6ywe-0 EWXYw markup \" data-testid=\"article-content article-paragraph\">\n<p>Established in 2018 to encourage the next generation of arts writers at the Fringe, the Fringe Young Writers Award is open to anyone aged 16-21, submitting work either published or unpublished.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Markup__ParagraphWrapper-sc-13q6ywe-0 EWXYw markup \" data-testid=\"article-content article-paragraph\">\n<p>Shona McCarthy, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, said: \u201c<em>We are always delighted to support the return of the Young Fringe Writers Award. The Fringe is a wonderful opportunity for writers to learn and develop at the very start of their career, and this award gives us the opportunity to support and encourage emerging writers. Congratulations to R\u00f3isin on receiving the 2024 award and we look forward to following her career and hope to welcome her back to the Fringe in the future. Thank you to the Scotsman team for supporting R\u00f3isin over the coming months.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ViafouraConversationStarter__StyledViafouraConversationStarter-sc-6yw40m-0 eNYoNH\">\n<div class=\"viafoura\">Scotsman editor Alan Young said: &#8220;<em>Many congratulations to R\u00f3isin on becoming the latest winner of the Fringe Young Writers Award, an initiative we are delighted to support in fostering the next generation of arts writers. I look forward to seeing her work next year and welcoming her into The Scotsman&#8217;s review team.<\/em>&#8220;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Markup__ParagraphWrapper-sc-13q6ywe-0 EWXYw markup \" data-testid=\"article-content article-paragraph\">\n<p>Currently studying towards a BA Joint Honors in Theatre and English Literature at Lancaster University, R\u00f3isin impressed judges at the Fringe Society with her reviews of three Fringe shows for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edfringereview.com\/\">edfringereview.com<\/a>, a student-run reviewing organisation that focuses on amateur, free and student theatre on the Fringe.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on her win, R\u00f3isin said: &#8220;<em>It was a privilege to review at this year&#8217;s Fringe, and to be awarded for the work I completed there means a great deal. In an industry that often feels extremely exclusive, I am so grateful to be given a voice and an opportunity.
