Georgia: FHASS Funded Internship, Community Engagement and Marketing Assistant, The Gregson
“I enjoyed how my internship had a real-life impact.”
Georgia is a Lancaster University History graduate now studying for an MA in Digital Humanities at Lancaster. In 2026 Georgia completed a Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (FHASS) Funded Internship with The Gregson Community and Arts Centre in Lancaster city.
The Gregson places itself at the heart of community life in Lancaster and currently hosts 70+ creative and community groups at its Centre in the city. This internship, as Community Engagement and Marketing Assistant, was integral to The Gregson reaching out to new audiences. Over two months in the summer of 2026 Georgia supported the programming and promotion of The Gregson’s Community Discovery Day, a day of free activities offered by some of their regular groups. Georgia embraced the opportunity to create and help execute a marketing schedule for the event, including creating posters, website copy and videos, and taking strong ownership of some aspects of the role, particularly in relation to student promotion and engagement:
“I felt like my work actually mattered, and seeing people enjoy the event I planned and marketed was really rewarding.”
Georgia felt very satisfied with her FHASS Funded Internship and that it was relevant to her career goals. After the internship Georgia reflected on her bolstered skills, she felt that her creativity, communication, decision making and independent working had been developed the most, and she had something to say about learning and confidence too:
“I learnt that I’m a better learner than I thought. I’ve had to do a lot of new things but picked them up really well!”
Georgia felt well supported during her internship and was given opportunities to work as part of a team and independently, representing The Gregson. It was great to hear that Georgia would definitely recommend a FHASS Funded Internship to a friend.
Thank you to The Gregson for supporting Georgia throughout this fantastic Internship, and it is great to hear that The Gregson benefited from the experience too:
“The internship was fantastic as it offered a new perspective for how we run and promote events … It was great to see the intern enjoy the role and seemingly get a lot out of it too!”
This FHASS Funded Internship was advertised, on a competitive application and interview basis, to current students registered on a degree scheme in the Faculty of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences at Lancaster University and was developed and supported by the FHASS Employability Team.
