A 2021 UK government report claimed that ‘Transitioning to a Net Zero Energy System’ will require ‘… increased and sustained participation from a wide range of industrial, commercial and public sector consumers.’ (Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy 2021, p. 19).
This video, based on a paper in the Journal of Organizational Sociology, uses the examples of schools and hopsitals to describe how the potential for organisations to flex the timing of their energy demand depends on interpretations of ‘core business’ defined by institutional connections established both outside organisations and reproduced within them.
