The department is also among the top linguistics departments in the world as well as in the UK. In 2025 QS World University rankings by subject Linguistics at Lancaster was ranked 3rd in the world. We have now been in the top 20 in the world for six years in a row. Linguistics at Lancaster is also consistently ranked in the top 10 in the UK. We are ranked 2nd in the UK by 2025 Times Good University Guide and 3rd in the 2025 <span style=\"color: #800000\">Complete University Guide<\/span>. It is highly ranked in all three major UK university league tables: The Times\/Sunday Times, the Guardian and the Complete University Guide. The University is set near the Lune Valley and the Forest of Bowland \u2013 areas of outstanding natural beauty \u2013 and on the edge of the Lake District.
