Participants from Lancaster University needed for a study on academic language
We are researchers from the Linguistics department at Lancaster University and we are building a large dataset (corpus) of student writing to better understand how students typically use language in different academic disciplines. The project is funded by the British Council.
We are looking for postgraduate (Master’s level) students from different departments at Lancaster University who are willing to contribute to our project with one or more pieces of writing produced as part of your studies at Lancaster University – for example, these could be essays, reviews, lab reports, dissertations or other types of writing. We will also ask you to fill in a short questionnaire. All your data will be anonymised and pooled together with other participants. Both native and non-native speakers of English are welcome to take part. As a thank you for your participation, you will receive a £10 Amazon voucher and be entered into a draw for a £50 voucher. The research has been approved by Lancaster University’s ethics committee.
If you are interested in taking part or finding out more about the project before you decide whether to take part, please get in touch with Dr Sally Ren (h.ren1@lancaster.ac.uk), one of the researchers working on the project. Sally will be happy to talk to you about the project or send you more information. You help is very much appreciated!
