On the 25th May, students from Lancaster and Liverpool University had a chance to present their recently published work to an audience of postgraduate students from each university. The day was organised by the editors of the journal, Dr Nicola Bermingham, Dr Stefania Tucci (University of Liverpool), and Dr Claire Nance (Lancaster University). This event was funded by the North West Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership.<\/p>\n

Students from Lancaster travelled to the University of Liverpool for the day, where they began by heading for some lunch.<\/p>\n

Following this, students headed to the University of Liverpool department of Languages, Cultures and Film to begin presenting their work. Topics ranges across various areas in Sociolinguistics, including critical discourse analysis, phonetics, forensic applications and minority languages.<\/p>\n

Then, students had some time to have tea, coffee, and doughnuts, before beginning a discussion about methodologies in sociolinguistics. This was a great chance for sharing methods and their research with others in the field.<\/p>\n

Once the workshop came to a close, everyone gathered to have some more snacks and wine! Following this, staff and students headed to “1931”, an Italian restaurant nearby to the university. Here, stories of research and university life were exchanged, and lots of pasta and pizza was consumed!<\/p>\n
