Innovations in sociolinguistics from the PG community

Last week, Modern Languages Open published a special collection including work from some of our wonderful PhD students! The collection titled “Sociolinguistic Methodologies at a Crossroads: Innovations from the Postgraduate Community” explores the rethinking of methodological approaches in Sociolinguistics, exploring novel ways in which we can apply research methods in a rapidly evolving research climate. This aims to create discussion about innovative ways to address contemporary methodological research problems and questions.

The issue includes 5 articles from Lancaster and Liverpool postgraduates, and is guest edited by Dr Nicola Bermingham (Liverpool), Dr Stefania Tufi (Liverpool), Dr Claire Nance (Lancaster).

From Lancaster, 3 PG students contributed to this special issue; Jessica Aiston, Maya Dewhurst, and Lois Fairclough. Their papers covered fields including critical discourse analysis and phonetics, with themes including digitally mediated misogyny, voice quality, and forensic phonetics.

Congratulations to our PG students and Dr Claire Nance!
