In the 2024/25 academic year, CULCOM will host three talks and a conference-style event in mid-July 2025 (funding has been secured from Lancaster University’s Global Advancement Fund, more details about the event closer to the time).
The focus of this year’s talks is – communicating in English as a global language:

James will highlight the challenges that international speakers of English face and discuss strategies that native speakers can adopt to aid successful communication.
- 3 March 2025, 2-3 pm, Fylde D33 or via Teams link: Sarah Spicer from The English Coach https://theenglishcoach.biz/
Sarah will share insights from coaching international speakers of English to help make English a gateway, not a barrier to success.
- 10 March 2025, 2-3 pm, County South C89 or via Teams link: Oksana Torubara, Visiting Researcher at Lancaster University (Department of Linguistics & English Language) and Associate Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University “Chernihiv Collegium” (Foreign Languages Department)
Oksana will discuss the Englishisation of higher education around the world, focusing on the case of Ukraine.
