In the 2024/25 academic year, CULCOM will host two talks and a conference-style event in mid-July 2025 (funding has been secured from Lancaster University’s Global Advancement Fund, more details about the event closer to the time).
The focus of this year’s talks is – communicating in English as a global language – and we will host two speakers based at training/consultancy companies to explore this topic from the perspectives of learners and ‘native’ speakers:
- 19 November 2024, 2-3 pm, Charles Carter A05 or via Teams link: James Webber from Say What https://www.saywhatenglish.com/
James will highlight the challenges that international speakers of English face and discuss strategies that native speakers can adopt to aid successful communication.
- 3 March 2025, 2-3 pm, Fylde D33 or via Teams link: Sarah Spicer from The English Coach https://theenglishcoach.biz/
Sarah will share insights from coaching international speakers of English to help make English a gateway, not a barrier to success.
