You can find the original pattern at this link: <a href=\"https:\/\/knitty.com\/ISSUEdf19\/PATTnudibranchia\/PATTnudibranchia.php\">https:\/\/knitty.com\/ISSUEdf19\/PATTnudibranchia\/PATTnudibranchia.php<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>This pattern is not intended for commercial use.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can use any weight of wool for this pattern, although we recommend DK, Worsted, Aran or Bulky weight wool.<br \/>\nIf you are knitting this patter for use in the environment, please ensure that you use natural fibres only.<br \/>\n<em>If you are knitting this as part of the Coastal Nature Lab project, please only use undyed wool.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Set of DP needles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gauge: <\/strong>To give your barnacles some structure, knit this project at a fairly tight gauge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>INSTRUCTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnacle 1<br \/>\n<\/strong>CO 30 stitches. Divide to 3 needles (10 sts per needle).<br \/>\nKnit *cone* to the desired height and bind off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnacle 2<br \/>\n<\/strong>CO 25 sts + pick up 5 sts along the lower edge of the first barnacle from the beginning of round 1.<br \/>\nKnit *cone* to the desired height and bind off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnacle 3<br \/>\n<\/strong>CO 20 sts + pick up 5 sts along the lower edge of barnacle 1 and 5 sts along the lower edge of barnacle 2 starting from one of the decrease point.<br \/>\nKnit *cone* to the desired height and bind off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barnacle 4<br \/>\n<\/strong>CO 15 sts + pick up 3 sts along the lower edge of barnacle 2, and 3 respectively, starting from one of the decrease points in either barnacle.<br \/>\nKnit *cone* to the desired height and bind off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>All the following Barnacles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cast on and pick up stitches from the lower edge of the existing barnacles to form a honeycomb pattern (see diagram below for reference).<br \/>\nKnit *cone* to the desired height and bind off.<br \/>\nYou can develop your pattern in different directions, but always make sure to match up the decreasing points in each bottom row.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cnl-patterns\/files\/2023\/07\/diagram-1024x722.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cnl-patterns\/files\/2023\/07\/diagram-1024x722.png 1024w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cnl-patterns\/files\/2023\/07\/diagram-300x212.png 300w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cnl-patterns\/files\/2023\/07\/diagram-768x542.png 768w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cnl-patterns\/files\/2023\/07\/diagram-1536x1083.png 1536w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cnl-patterns\/files\/2023\/07\/diagram-2048x1444.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Cone*\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Give your barnacles some variety by knitting at different heights, and leave some of the barnacles open and other closed. \u00a0<\/em><em>To do so, knit for each barnacle as many rounds as you like before casting off the remaining stitches.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Round 1<\/em>: Knit.<br \/>\n<em>Round 2<\/em>: [K8, k2tog] 3 times. 27 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 3<\/em>: [K7, k2tog] 3 times. 24 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 4<\/em>: [K6, k2tog] 3 times. 21 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 5<\/em>: Knit 1 round.<br \/>\n<em>Round 6<\/em>: [K5, k2tog] 3 times. 18 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 7<\/em>: Knit 1 round.<br \/>\n<em>Round 8<\/em>: [K4, k2tog] 3 times. 15 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 9 &amp; 10<\/em>: Knit 2 rounds<br \/>\n<em>Round 11<\/em>: [K3, k2tog] 3 times. 12 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 12 &amp; 13<\/em>: Knit 2 rounds.<br \/>\n<em>Round 14<\/em>: [K2, k2tog] 3 times. 9 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 15 \u2013 17<\/em>: Knit 3 rounds.<br \/>\n<em>Round 18<\/em>: [K1, k2tog] 3 times. 6 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 19 \u2013 21<\/em>: Knit 3 rounds.<br \/>\n<em>Round 22<\/em>: [K2tog] 3 times. 3 sts.<br \/>\n<em>Round 23<\/em>: Knit. Break yarn, leaving a 4 inch\/ 10 cm tail, and thread the end onto a yarn needle.
