An International audience were brought together to enhance their understanding of the psychological and social drivers of threats to national security with an explanation of skills, technologies and protective security measures with two workshops on addressing bias in computational social science.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Highlights from the workshops included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can bias ever be removed in the long term;<\/li>\n<li>Problems can be introduced when there is human interaction in the machine.<\/li>\n<li>Do Social Science theories introduce bias?<\/li>\n<li>How can we use models to our advantage without introducing bias?<\/li>\n<li>One key takeaway was, &#8220;It is not how the model works, but how can we use the model to our advantage?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Behavioural and Social Sciences in Security conference BASS22 was held in July at Lancaster University.
