Life beyond Lancaster Environment Centre
Annie’s career took a slightly different path to what most people would have expected, as she is currently a Senior Producer for Penguin Random House. Although not necessarily an explicitly ‘geographical role’, Annie highlights the skills picked up in her degree and her social activities as being fundamental to this job role.
Max highlights the skills that he gained whilst studying BSc Geography at undergraduate and from his PgCert in Flood & Coastal Risk Management as fundamental to his current role as a hydraulic modeller. However, Max’s time at Lancaster also saw him develop as a person, making long-lasting friendships, with fond memories of international field-trips to Iceland and Spain.
Elliot chose to study at Lancaster University after he fell in love with the campus, with its large collegiate community, and because of LEC’s highly regarded nature as a global institution. Whilst studying, Elliot thoroughly enjoyed the variety of modules undertaken, developing his analytical and communication skills which are fundamental in his current job role, whilst he also enjoyed participating in LUSU’s International Cultural Exchange programme.
The second year Communicating Geography module helped Adam to decide his career path. He’s now a teacher at a local secondary school and training the next generation of geographers!
Following her valuable voluntary work, Brittany recently became a Project Co-ordinator for a charity called the Carbon Literacy Project.
Antje is now employed at the Horticultural Sciences Department of the Institute of Plant Sciences and Resource Conservation in Bonn (Germany) as the lab manager and supervises PhD/Master’s students.
Travelling around South America for three months with her friend Nancy who she met in Lancaster has given the pair a well earned break after completing their degrees…
Since leaving Lancaster, Sophie decided to apply the transferable skills she learnt during her degree and take a slightly different direction into the world of marketing, and is now an Account Executive at McCann Manchester working on the Aldi account.
