• Treat all participants with courtesy and professional respect, including in Q&A and informal discussion.
• Engage critically and rigorously with scholarship, not with the person presenting it.
• Be mindful that this is an international gathering; avoid assumptions about others’ political views, national loyalties, or positions on sensitive topics (e.g. cross-strait relations, Xinjiang, Hong Kong).
• Respect confidentiality where colleagues discuss sensitive fieldwork, unpublished research, or politically exposed topics.

Unacceptable behaviour

• Harassment, intimidation, or discriminatory remarks, whether in person or online.
• Photographing, recording, or reporting on colleagues’ remarks in ways intended to expose them to professional or political risk.
• Disruptive conduct during sessions.

Recording of talks

• No audio or video recording of sessions, panels, or Q&A without the explicit prior consent of the speaker(s) and the organisers.
• Speakers may decline to be recorded for any part of their talk, including discussion.
• Any approved recordings will be clearly signalled at the start of the session; participants uncomfortable being recorded may request the recording pause during their contribution.
• This applies to personal devices as well as official conference recording.

• The use of AI note-taking bots, transcription apps, or automated summarisation tools (e.g. joining virtual sessions or recording in person) is not permitted without prior notice to and consent from the speaker and organisers, for the same reasons as recording.
• Delegates wishing to use such tools for personal notes only (not shared or published) should seek permission from the speaker before the session and disable any sharing, cloud-sync, or third-party data processing features.
• Where sensitive research, unpublished data, or politically sensitive material is discussed, AI tools of any kind are prohibited regardless of consent, given data-handling and confidentiality risks.
