Johnny Lau

A third year Film, Media and Cultural Studies student about to go into a Master’s Degree in Film and Cinema Production in Hong Kong. Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, there is a combination of both cultures which can complement each other between British and Hong Kong Cinema.

He has experience in filmmaking as a director and collaborated as a cinematographer in multiple student films, and would like to specialise as a cinematographer in the near future in either film or broadcasting.

The Cog of LIfe (2023)

A structuralist film which explores the juxtaposition of two different projections of life a more chaotic and urban setting. A reflection on our typically busy routines in the age of smartphones and social media in a fast-paced environment.

This film shares the experiences where the voiceovers were shown the film without the voiceover and record their own thoughts on it, and sharing insightful details about it- the voiceovers are people who don’t study film, and I hope this film can resonate the juxtaposition of the urban chaos and the serene nature of the countryside.
