“Together Apart” delves into the theme of “Flight” through the evolving dynamic of a couple’s relationship. As the partners emotionally distance themselves from each other, their actions symbolize a retreat from their intimacy and connection as they look for what they really need. The film\u2019s structure, with visuals advancing chronologically while the audio reverses, underscores this duality of a progression in time countered by a regression into memories.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The backward audio evokes a sense of longing and escape, illustrating how the characters flee from their present to avoid the pain of their unfulfilling relationship but as a result find more reasons to part ways. The couple’s gradual separation embodies the theme of “Flight” as both a physical and emotional departure. Matt Kowalski graduated with a Film Studies degree from Lancaster University in 2022 and is currently pursuing a master\u2019s degree in the same field at Lancaster University, set to be completed in summer 2024.<\/span> Over the past three years, he has contributed to ten short films, including three as Writer\/Director.
