Lancaster University hosted a vibrant two‑day international workshop on 23–24 March 2026, bringing together colleagues from Vilnius University, NOVA University Lisbon and the Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership to strengthen cooperation around doctoral training, community‑engaged research and European collaboration.
The event was led by Dr Doug Orr and Dr Simone Corsi, with expert facilitation by Dr Dee Hennessy, all from Lancaster University. Their guidance ensured an energetic, inclusive and well‑structured programme that enabled participants to connect, share practice and explore opportunities for future joint work.
A series of discussions, campus explorations and reflective sessions allowed partners to exchange perspectives on research priorities, previous international collaborations and ambitions for a future Marie Curie Doctoral Network proposal. The workshop also highlighted Lancaster’s vibrant ecosystem of community partnerships and interdisciplinary strengths.
A standout moment was the globally inspired catering provided by Global Village Café, a Lancaster‑based social enterprise supporting refugees and people seeking asylum through food, employment and cultural exchange. Their contribution added warmth and community spirit to the event and sparked conversations around food justice and social inclusion.
Participants concluded the workshop with a strong sense of shared purpose, enthusiasm for developing deeper transnational collaboration and clear plans for next steps. The event reaffirmed the value of bringing universities and community partners together to co‑create research that is impactful, equitable and rooted in real‑world challenges.
