The workshop is now officially part of <strong data-start=\"1007\" data-end=\"1067\">SIGARAB \u2014 the ACL Special Interest Group on Arabic NLP \u2014<\/strong> reinforcing our long-term commitment to community-driven research and capacity building for Arabic-script languages. We also work closely with the <strong data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1232\">Masakhane NLP<\/strong> community in Africa, with organisers from both initiatives actively collaborating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1319\" data-end=\"1931\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\">At its core, AbjadNLP provides a platform for cutting-edge research in <strong data-start=\"1390\" data-end=\"1404\">Arabic NLP<\/strong>, encompassing <strong data-start=\"1419\" data-end=\"1445\">Modern Standard Arabic<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1447\" data-end=\"1467\">Classical Arabic<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1492\">Arabic dialects<\/strong>, while also encouraging work on <strong data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1534\">Abjad<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1539\" data-end=\"1548\">Ajami<\/strong> languages that employ Arabic, Perso-Arabic, and other script variations. These include <strong data-start=\"1636\" data-end=\"1655\">Persian (Farsi)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1665\">Urdu<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1667\" data-end=\"1677\">Pashto<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1712\">Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1731\">Azeri Turkish<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1752\">Ottoman Turkish<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1754\" data-end=\"1764\">Sindhi<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1770\" data-end=\"1780\">Uyghur<\/strong>, as well as <strong data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1820\">African Ajami languages<\/strong> such as <strong data-start=\"1829\" data-end=\"1838\">Hausa<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1840\" data-end=\"1848\">Fula<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1850\" data-end=\"1861\">Wolofal<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1863\" data-end=\"1874\">Swahili<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1886\">Kanuri<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1900\">Mandingo<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1906\" data-end=\"1928\">Tamazight (Berber)<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1933\" data-end=\"2311\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\">Together, these languages represent nearly <strong data-start=\"1976\" data-end=\"2000\">one billion speakers<\/strong> across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia \u2014 a vast linguistic community that remains underrepresented in computational research. AbjadNLP seeks to bridge this gap by promoting inclusive, resource-driven, and culturally aware NLP that empowers both Arabic and non-Arabic languages written in the Arabic script.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2313\" data-end=\"2316\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2895\" data-end=\"2919\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\">Topics of Interest<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2921\" data-end=\"3183\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\">We invite submissions on all aspects of <strong data-start=\"2961\" data-end=\"2996\">NLP for Arabic-script languages<\/strong>, broadly defined to include <strong data-start=\"3025\" data-end=\"3052\">Arabic and its dialects<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3054\" data-end=\"3080\">Perso-Arabic languages<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"3086\" data-end=\"3106\">Ajami traditions<\/strong> across Africa and Asia. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"3187\" data-end=\"3414\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\"><strong data-start=\"3187\" data-end=\"3209\">Core Technologies:<\/strong> Morphological analysis, tokenisation, tagging, parsing, named entity recognition, sentiment and emotion analysis, and adaptation or fine-tuning of large language models (LLMs) for low-resource contexts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3417\" data-end=\"3616\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\"><strong data-start=\"3417\" data-end=\"3434\">Applications:<\/strong> Machine translation, speech recognition and synthesis, OCR and handwriting recognition, assistive technologies, question answering, and social media or conversational AI analysis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3619\" data-end=\"3863\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\"><strong data-start=\"3619\" data-end=\"3643\">Resources and Tools:<\/strong> Corpora (monolingual, parallel, and multimodal), lexicons, orthography and script documentation, text input methods, spelling and grammar checkers, and open-access datasets for low-resource and marginalised languages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3866\" data-end=\"4097\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\"><strong data-start=\"3866\" data-end=\"3910\">Cultural and Sociolinguistic Dimensions:<\/strong> Transliteration and orthographic variation, code-switching, dialect variation, cultural context in NLP, and preservation of linguistic heritage for minority and indigenous communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4100\" data-end=\"4318\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\"><strong data-start=\"4100\" data-end=\"4141\">Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas:<\/strong> NLP for education, health, finance, legal, and cultural heritage; ethical considerations in multilingual NLP; and fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in model evaluation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"4320\" data-end=\"4323\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"4325\" data-end=\"4363\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\">Submission Format and Guidelines<\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4365\" data-end=\"4644\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica\">AbjadNLP 2026 follows the <strong data-start=\"4391\" data-end=\"4404\">EACL 2026<\/strong> standards for submission format, review process, and ethical guidelines.
