It wouldn\u2019t be fair to say the ache starts<\/span>
\n every morning as I wake.<\/span>
\n Or truthfully that I wake at all,<\/span>
\n more I become conscious\u2026 of the pain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fire started small and young.<\/span>
\n Fickle flickering up my spine.<\/span>
\n Across my shoulders like a seasoned log,<\/span>
\n spreading further, faster as I age.<\/span><\/p>\n

It took hold.<\/span>
\n It ravaged me, left me weak and wincing.<\/span>
\n Scared to stretch my body,<\/span>
\n as if it would elongate my pain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ache doesn\u2019t care how I adjust.\u00a0<\/span>
\n Turn this hip, rest this hand, lift this leg.\u00a0<\/span>
\n To chase it out of one limb just moves it,\u00a0<\/span>
\n across the map of my body.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t listen to the pills.<\/span>
\n Signals sent to block it in my brain.\u00a0<\/span>
\n It weaves its way round them,<\/span>
\n conniving and wheedling itself into my synapses.<\/span><\/p>\n
