I\u2019m off to America in three days and it has only just hit me. I would have thought that I would be the type of person who would get overly excited and refuse to sleep because of it. Yet in the past week I\u2019ve barely given it a thought. The general buzz of university life and the unfinished work has taken preference so to be honest I\u2019d barely given it a second thought. That was until my flatmate burst into my room asking me to buy him something whilst I\u2019m there and then struck me, I\u2019m off to America!<\/p>\n
Today has been the first day that I\u2019ve been overcome with excitement. America was in the back of my mind, it still felt so far away and I had so much to do, but as soon as all my work was done and the stress was out of the way my sights are well and truly set on the States. Ever since I can remember I\u2019ve been utterly obsessed with America. Be it from its incredible history, the diversity of its people, or even its \u2018questionable\u2019 politics (as a politics student that\u2019s what I am fascinated by), I\u2019ve always loved learning about everything American.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not quite sure what to expect in all honesty. You hear Americanisms all the time now that American TV is dominating British television but you never get the chance to experience it. For example, I\u2019ve still got no idea what a corn dog is despite hearing about it constantly on American TV shows. I think this is what I\u2019ll find most fascinating. Not the corn dogs, but just seeing everything in context. I\u2019ll be able to see the famous buzz of New York with my own eyes and I\u2019ll be able to taste the Boston seafood myself. I\u2019ve always known about these things yet I\u2019ve never experienced them, so instead of looking forward to new things I think I\u2019m more excited about finally experiencing all that I know about.<\/p>\n
I think going with the University will add something extra to the trip. You always see places in a different light depending on who you go with. Although the trip is meant to academic, I think the fact I\u2019m travelling with so many students will certainly add something, but I\u2019m still not sure what. I\u2019ll have to wait and see but as of today I am certainly looking forward. Now excuse me whilst I get back to watching everything New York related on You Tube.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
