{"id":2,"date":"2017-03-03T13:59:46","date_gmt":"2017-03-03T13:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/slurry-max\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2017-03-13T15:42:33","modified_gmt":"2017-03-13T15:42:33","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/slurry-max\/","title":{"rendered":"What is SLURRY-MAX?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For farmers, slurry can be both a blessing and a curse: in the right place at the right time, it&#8217;s a valuable source of fertilizing nutrients;\u00a0in the wrong place at the wrong time, it&#8217;s a\u00a0dangerous and heavily-regulated potential pollutant.<\/p>\n<p>A number of decision support tools&#8211;such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahdb.org.uk\/projects\/CropNutrition.aspx\">RB209<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarmhub.co.uk\/about.php?id=3919\">Crap App<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planet4farmers.co.uk\/Content.aspx?name=PLANET\">Planet<\/a>&#8211;have been produced with the aim of helping farmers ensure their slurry and manure is a blessing, rather than a curse.<\/p>\n<p>But how useful are these tools to farmers in the field? How can they be made better?<\/p>\n<p>SLURRY-MAX is an interdisciplinary project led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/sociology\/about-us\/people\/claire-waterton\">Claire Waterton <\/a>at Lancaster Unversity. Claire, alongside her colleagues <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceh.ac.uk\/staff\/lisa-norton\">Lisa Norton <\/a>(Lancaster), <a href=\"http:\/\/pure.qub.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/persons\/katrina-macintosh(489891b8-9b9a-48f7-bbfb-b87585326866).html\">Katrina Macintosh <\/a>(Queen&#8217;s Belfast), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cranfield.ac.uk\/people\/dr-ruben-sakrabani-753815\">Ruben Sakrabani <\/a>(Cranfield), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangor.ac.uk\/senrgy\/staff\/gibbons.php.en\">James Gibbons<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangor.ac.uk\/senrgy\/staff\/chadwick.php.en\">Dave Chadwick <\/a>(Bangor),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sruc.ac.uk\/sshrestha\">Shailesh Shrestha <\/a>(SRUC) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/sociology\/about-us\/people\/emma-cardwell\">Emma Cardwell <\/a>(Lancaster), working alongside <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adas.uk\/\">ADAS<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahdb.org.uk\/\">AHDB<\/a>,\u00a0will investigate what decision support tools actually do for farmers, and how they can be made to do more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For farmers, slurry can be both a blessing and a curse: in the right place at the right time, it&#8217;s a valuable source of fertilizing nutrients;\u00a0in the wrong place at the wrong time, it&#8217;s a\u00a0dangerous and heavily-regulated potential pollutant.
