{"id":1254,"date":"2019-07-29T13:02:51","date_gmt":"2019-07-29T13:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespearelangproject\/?page_id=1254"},"modified":"2022-08-31T20:19:51","modified_gmt":"2022-08-31T20:19:51","slug":"mooc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespearelang\/engagement\/mooc\/","title":{"rendered":"MOOC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have a free course, a four-week MOOC: <span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/shakespeares-language\">Shakespeare&#8217;s Language: Revealing Meanings and Exploring Myths<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>It begins in supervised mode (i.e. there are mentors available) on Monday 5th September.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You will learn about Shakespeare\u2019s linguistic backdrop, the kinds of words and structures that were available to him, and see how he exploited them. You will discover what Shakespeare\u2019s words meant to Elizabethan audiences, how they constructed particular characters, or particular types of character \u2013 male or female. Along the way, we will debunk a few myths \u2013 such as, did he really coin thousands of words?<\/p>\n<p>We have been addressing such issues as part of the Encyclopedia of Shakespeare Language project, and we have been doing this with computers. That is a key aspect of this course \u2013 you will learn how to use a computer to interrogate our resources and do such research yourselves.
